Tell me more

Concern for the future of the planet has never received more attention. It fills the newspapers almost every day. Whilst the scientists debate technical arguments, the artist approaches this concern by focusing on appreciation, the value of observation and an enhanced emotional response to the beauty of the natural world.

This site is linked to A Rocha, a Christian nature conservation organisation. The name comes from the Portuguese for "the Rock," as the first initiative was a field study centre in Portugal. A Rocha is now a family of projects working in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, North and South America and Asia. A Rocha projects are frequently cross-cultural in character, and share a community emphasis, with a focus on science and research, practical conservation and environmental education.

The consumer culture of developed countries is at the heart of many of the world's problems. There is a real place for simpler lifestyles and taking the time to observe and appreciate simple things. A Rocha UK has made this an important part of its philosophy. Art can encourage us to reflect more deeply on simple things and give our senses a chance to respond.
